Steve’s Blog – Pro Digest Week 16
Another powerful way to deal with interruptions is to COMPARTMENTALIZE. This is especially effective when you are already in a meeting and a new issue/topic that is NOT scheduled to be covered comes up. Instead of allowing the current meeting to get “off track”, right at that moment (a 2 minute or less example!) set a date/time to address the nature of the interruption. This way, you and whoever you are meeting with, will:
- Be able to stay on point with the current subject/agenda.
- Have the “pressure off” that would be created by dealing with the issue right now
- Help ensure the all necessary people/resources will be present/available
Use this technique for virtually all interruptions that typically cause problems in many meetings. I plan to talk more about COMPARTMENTALIZING in next week’s blog.
