How to Disable Duplicate Alerts for Text Messages (iPhone/iPad iOS 8 & 9)

When you upgraded to iOS 8, you may have noticed you receive multiple alerts for text messages. This can be changed in Settings, so that you only receive the alert for a text message once. This process shown on iPhone 6 with iOS 8, but works on iPad with iOS 8 as well.
